Travelling with kids can have its challenges, no matter their age, designation or method of transport.

The best way to combat the fear of travelling short or long distances with your kids is to be prepared, and have an entertainment pack ready whenever you travel, reusable activities are perfect as they are a once-off investment, typically mess-free and can be used anyway their imagination takes them.

Travel Activity Checklist:

• Does it pack easy?
• Flat, compact, and light-weight are the best if you're carrying everything eg. on a plane
• Is it mess-free?
• the last stress you need travelling is added clearing or worry, steer towards activities that wipe clean with a wet wipe, are magnetic or use water to colour.
• Does it have entertainment potential?
• in other words, will it keep them busy for more than a minute? Think age appropriate and help start them off with a scenario/challenge/idea to make it more interesting
• is it calming?
• You can't keep the kids silent completely but aim for activities that minimise noise, excitement or anything that will wind them up, especially if they're stuck in one place for an extended period of time.
• investing in a calming device, light or sensory toy is definitely worth it.
• Can they reuse it?
• This pairs perfectly with packing, you want something that can be reused, but be just as engaging the 2nd, 3rd or 10th time. Imagination and creativity will play a big part here
• Keep calm and read on
• Books are a great travel activity, be mindful that books can add some weight so keep it to a minimum, keep them small or look for soft covers if possible. A favourite book will also help with bedtime settling and continuing the home routine.
